State College Friends School Adds Pre-K to Continuum of Quality Education learn more

Preschool Open House - February 18th

9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  Info: 237-8386

Children at Friends Schoolhouse love to explore their world. Students enjoy many opportunities to learn from their natural environment in the school's discovery room where plants, shells, rocks, and found objects --  including the exoskeleton

of a cicada invite and delight!

State College Friends School has expanded its existing continuum of Kindergarten through eighth grade to include a pre-primary program serving children 3 to 5 years.  Several full time openings are available.  Friends Schoolhouse is located at 611 E. Prospect Ave. (This is the location of Friends Meeting.)

The program is designed to prepare children for formal learning in the primary grades through a unique curriculum drawing from the Reggio Emilia philosophy and other early childhood learning programs.

Guided by the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, equality, community, and stewardship, the daily program will offer a spiritually rich community environment, designed to be an extension of the rhythms and routines of home, while offering a broad array of opportunities for exploring language, science, math, social skills and developmentally appropriate skills. Call 237-8386 for enrollment information.

IN AND AROUND FRIENDS SCHOOL

"Make new friends but keep the old.  One is silver and the other's gold."

Snow Tires!  Friends School children enjoy outdoor play year round.  Snow soccer, climbing equipment, sand and water play, and plenty of fresh air fuels imaginative, healthy play.

Friends middle school students explore pattern and color with handmade holiday bracelets.

Welcome to our returning and new families.

Mary Ziegler, Director of Admissions prepares to greet students on the first day of school.  Students and staff were happy to be reunited.  After a flurry of excitement in the halls and classrooms, students got right to work, meeting new classmates and establishing goals and guidelines for the year.

2011-2012 ANNUAL FUND CAMPAIGN UNDERWAY

As is the case in most independent schools, tuition alone does not cover the cost of educating our students.  While we bridge some of this gap with auxilliary programs and fundraising events such as the SPICES Gala and the Fun Fair, we rely on the generous Annual Fund contributions of parents, alumni, staff, and friends to enhance our school curriculum and provide support for special projects.   Please consider a gift to the State College Friends School. Contact Lori Pacchioli, Director of Development for details. lorip@scfriends.org

READING BUDDIES

Friends School curriculum is complemented by a community of volunteers.  Here, a Foxdale Village resident reads to a first grader.  Parents, Foxdale residents and students from Penn State can often be found working with students and building mutually satisfying relationships.

EASY MONEY FOR FRIENDS SCHOOL

Grocery cards are an easy way to help SCFS earn money for special programs and activities.  It's simple.  Just purchase Weis/Giant gift cards before you do your grocery shopping.  Friends School receives a percentage of the overall sale.  You pay nothing extra!  It's like free money for the school.  You may also designate State College Friends School as the recipient of grocery store bonus programs which also means free money.  See Diane at the front desk for details.
