Welcome to Middle School (6-8) with Teachers Bailey and Laura
Teacher Bailey Kellerman grew up in the small town of Tidioute, Pennsylvania located on the edge of the Allegheny National Forest, canoeing, exploring, and collecting insects. Bailey still loves insects, animals, and the outdoors. Much of her free time goes toward caring for her ever-growing menagerie, which has included Great Pyrenees dogs, cats, a hamster, fish and turtles, cockroaches, chinchillas, iguanas, mice, and a parrot. More recently, Bailey has taken an interest in astrophysics and is reading her way through the Richard Feynman canon. Bailey is thankful for every day that she works at Friends School, a place where she can share her love of science with others and where animals, experiments, and adventures of all kinds are encouraged. Teacher Bailey's undergraduate degree is from the Forest Sciences program at The Pennsylvania State University, and she also earned an M. S. in Entomology from Penn State as well.
Laura Beckley joins State College Friends School this year primarily as the sixth grade Social Studies and Math teacher and will assist with Language Arts. Laura has an undergraduate degree in English from The College of William and Mary, a Master of Letters in Creative Writing from The University of St Andrews (Scotland), and a Master of Teaching from American University. She has taught in inner city elementary schools in Washington, DC and Richmond, VA. Laura is also "mom" to two Friends School students who will no doubt find many reasons to visit the middle school this year.
