5th Grade with Teacher Karen Maynard
Teacher Karen has been working at Friends School as an assistant teacher for the past two years, and has worked at the Friends School Summer camp two years prior to that. She majored in Early Childhood Education at Penn State with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. After graduating, she worked in an infant and toddler classroom at the Bennett Family Center, one of the childcare facilities for Penn State. There, she learned even more about best practices and the importance of play in early child development, laying important building blocks for her career at Friends School. During her first two years at the school, Teacher Karen developed the "Enrichment Program" for Kindergarten through 4th grade, and worked to include various members of the community in educational opportunities at the school. Teacher Karen loves seeing children in moments of discovery, especially during math and when exploring the outdoors. She is a dancer, crafter, and singer, and enjoys providing a wide variety of music opportunities for the students.
