Meet Joanne Thurston Griswold

Joanne (she/her) joined the State College Friends School in 2012 as she sought a school community that supports students' academic and social-emotional growth. Long before that, Joanne began her career in education as a school psychologist, both in inner-city and rural school districts, with the purpose of helping students find academic and behavioral success. She is certified in Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education. At SCFS, Joanne works to support a learning community that provides a safe place for children to become active participants in their academic and social learning. In Joanne’s classroom, the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship provide an important basis from which students consider their role in making their world a better place for the diversity of humanity as well as the natural world.
