State College Friends School seeks a seasonal, hourly Receptionist to support daily school operations. This position is central to the life of the school and is often the first point of contact for students, families, visitors, and community members.

The Receptionist manages the front desk and provides broad clerical support to the school. The role requires strong organization, discretion, clear communication, and the ability to manage many responsibilities at once in an active school environment.

The Receptionist reports directly to the Head of School.

Responsibilities

Front desk and daily operations

• Maintain a welcoming, calm, and orderly front office environment
• Manage entry through the front doors and follow visitor procedures
• Answer phone calls, emails, postal mail & packages, and online messages and route information appropriately
• Serve as a consistent point of contact for families, students, staff, and visitors

Student records and scheduling

• Maintain accurate student, family, and emergency information
• Compile and distribute daily attendance and dismissal information
• Coordinate with teachers and families regarding early dismissals, late pickups, and schedule changes
• Maintain student rosters and classroom lists

Clerical and operational support

• Manage shared spaces and common-use technology
• Maintain the internal Google calendar for school events and activities
• Arrange daily transportation and field trip busing
• Log checks and cash received by the school

Student care and school support

• Assist students with basic first aid or immediate needs and involve appropriate staff as needed
• Support special projects as assigned by the Head of School,  Director of Strategic Advancement, and/or Director of School Operations
• Provide general clerical support as needed to ensure smooth school operations

Requirements

This position includes, but is not limited to: moving; bending; walking, including at a fast pace, both indoors and outdoors; lifting up to 50 pounds; kneeling; squatting; sitting on the floor; standing for long periods of time; climbing stairs. 

This is an on-site position during regular school hours. The role involves frequent interaction with students and families, periods of sustained desk work, and regular movement throughout the building.

SCFS is seeking a Music Specialist Teacher to work with our students aged Pre-K through 8th Grade. Specialist Teachers at State College Friends School have much autonomy in creating their program, and are guided by SCFS’ mission statement, Friends school pedagogy, collegial collaboration, and national standards in subject areas. Faculty members at SCFS thoughtfully engage people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences and foster an environment of trust, collaboration, and professionalism at school. A strong alignment with Quaker testimonies and progressive education -- in philosophy and teaching practice -- is expected. 

This is a part-time salaried position that includes at least six (6) hours per week of instructional time on site, and three (3) hours per week for professional meetings & planning time.

Responsibilities 

In addition to creating and implementing an experiential curriculum in their subject area(s), the Music Specialist Teacher: 

• establishes a positive classroom community and culture of belonging
• collaborates with SCFS colleagues in a creative, dynamic, values-based learning community
• documents students’ learning and writes progress reports (if applicable)
• engages families in the school-home partnership through individual communications as needed
• attends in-service meetings and professional development trainings
• participates in other school-wide programs and events such as Back to School Night
• plans and facilitates two (2) performances per year (December and May)
• completes other duties as assigned by the Head of School, consistent with the position of a specialist teacher and member of the faculty

Salary: Specialist Teachers at SCFS are compensated in ratio with our Faculty Salary Equity Chart, based on education and years of teaching experience.

Qualifications:

• Early childhood experience preferred
• Collaborative, patient, warm presence

Designs and implements inquiry-based academic instruction in literacy, numeracy, science, and social studies. Uses Responsive Classroom practices and builds a strong partnership with families.

Key qualities: skilled elementary pedagogy, differentiation, reflective practice.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s required (Master’s preferred)
• Knowledge of K–5 pedagogy
• Experience with differentiation & child-centered instruction

Subject-area specialist (Humanities, Math, Science, or Spanish) who designs rigorous, relevant, inquiry-driven curriculum for adolescents. Serves as advisor and models restorative practices and student agency.

Key qualities: content expertise, adolescent development knowledge, collaborative spirit.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s required (Master’s preferred)
• Strong subject expertise
• Experience with adolescents preferred

Leads a process-oriented, inclusive music and creative arts program that emphasizes creativity, multicultural appreciation, movement, rhythm, and joyful participation.

Key qualities: creative, musically flexible, child-centered.

Qualifications:

• Background in music or arts education
• Inclusive, playful instructional approach

Guides a unified Spanish program across grade levels, emphasizing communication, immersion, and cultural understanding through storytelling, conversation, and project-based learning.

Key qualities: fluent in Spanish, culturally responsive, experienced with language acquisition.

Qualifications:

• Fluency in Spanish
• Experience with language instruction preferred

Teaches ecological literacy and leads outdoor learning, sustainability efforts, and stewardship initiatives such as gardens, composting, recycling, and nature exploration.

Key qualities: environmental science background, outdoor leadership, systems thinker.

Qualifications:

• Environmental science or outdoor education background
• Experience leading outdoor learning preferred

Teaches whole-child physical wellness—including motor skills, mindfulness, cooperative play, and lifelong health habits—rather than competitive sports. Collaborates with teachers to support student wellbeing.

Key qualities: knowledge of child development, wellness education, movement-based SEL.
