Your Participation Really Counts in Annual Fund Giving
A Special Request for Families of Current Students, May 2017
from the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees
Although giving comes in many forms, one that calls for special attention is participation. Simply put, this is the act of giving. Not how much you give, but whether you do it at all. We are asking you to give to the 2016-2017 Annual Fund now, before the end of the school year. For two reasons:
One is that participation is viewed as an indicator of community by grantors. The agencies that provide much needed grant money to SCFS for playground equipment, assembly programs, garden projects, field trips, professional development, after school clubs, and special activities that enhance learning always ask about participation. Indirectly, higher participation numbers mean more successful grant applications. Yep, really.
The other reason, the big one, is that participation is communal. The act of giving creates a relationship between families and school that makes community a concrete reality. It turns a collection of individuals into us.
And so we -- the trustees who represent the development committee -- invite you to join us in this end-of-school-year participation drive to make our goal of $55,000 for the Annual Fund and 100% participation from parents of current students.
Any amount, even just $5, will help. It is not the amount that is so important, but the act itself.
Please join us in giving.

A Familiar Refrain With a Different Twist
This song is one your children love to sing during our MLK celebration and throughout the year because of its catchy tune and theme of determination and action for a cause. In the case of our studies about Dr. King and his work, that cause is freedom.
Adapted by former Head of School Larry Boggess from a gospel song composed by Dorothy Coates Love, you are more likely familiar with the tune's refrain (listen here). Here, as a spring Annual Fund participation drive encouragement, we're borrowing a snippet of that song to encourage giving because "ninety-nine and a half won't do . . . gotta be a hundred!"
