State College Friends School
This week I have been reminded of the kindness and generosity of our students. I have watched them hold doors for each other, say please and thank you, and share their supplies with each other. Beyond that, I have watched the excitement they express when a classmate returns. I had the opportunity to sit with Tr. Eileen’s class this week and, after receiving multiple hugs, was quickly immersed in story writing and illustrating. All the time that they worked, the students were quick to share compliments and offer help to each other. It was wonderful to see their gestures of support and hear their gentle words.
As many of our parents know, the school has kicked off its annual fund drive. The annual fund supports school activities such special events, library books, and teacher salaries. Normally, the Annual Fund is met through the continuous generosity of our parents and friends community. However, something special happened last week. We received an anonymous donation from a student. He parted with $24.00 of his hard earned allowance. He let us know that since the school has been so helpful to him, that he wanted to make sure that he supported the school when he could. Needless to say we were all in awe of his gesture and his feelings for Friends School. Thank you young man. I hope your generosity finds its way back to you.
On Monday, January 16th we will be MLK Day – On Monday, January 16th we will be celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King. After, meeting we will screen portions of Dr. King’s I have a Dream Speech and sing a few songs from the civil rights era.
