Meet Sunna deForest

Sunna (she/her) joined the SCFS faculty in 2012, bringing experience as an outdoor educator, an elementary teacher in the Alaskan Yup’ik village, and a middle school Montessori teacher. She teaches at SCFS because it is a place that listens to the heart of the learner, celebrates diversity at all levels, and cultivates interconnectedness. Sunna believes the most profound educational experiences come from learning in community and the magic of each person sharing their gift while welcoming and cherishing what others have to offer.

In her free time, Sunna recharges by immersing herself in nature, eating good food, and doing yoga. She loves to travel, explore new places, and enjoy down time with her husband, Russ, son, Esten, and their Jack terrier, Emma. Sunna is currently pursuing her M. Ed. as a Counselor of Education at Penn State University.
