Description
The Student Support Coordinator plays a vital role in cultivating a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment for every student. This position is central to proactively addressing student behavioral needs, developing and overseeing comprehensive student support plans, and ensuring tailored accommodations for neurodivergent students.
This role moves beyond traditional disciplinary approaches to champion student success and overall well-being. The Coordinator's core function is to strategically anticipate and mitigate challenges before they escalate, ensuring students receive timely, appropriate interventions that empower them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Through specialized knowledge and intervention strategies, this role actively fosters an environment where all students can flourish.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage student behavior, implementing positive and restorative practices.
- Develop, coordinate, and oversee student support plans.
- Serve as a resource for faculty, staff, students, and parents on neurodiversity and learning differences.
- Collaborate with faculty to differentiate instruction and create individualized learning plans, ensuring all students, especially those with diverse needs, receive targeted support.
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and outside professionals to ensure student well-being.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Proven experience working with K-12 students in a support, counseling, or special education capacity.
- Knowledge of student support frameworks (e.g., MTSS), educational law (e.g., IDEA, Section 504), and best practices for supporting neurodivergent learners.
- Experience in conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and behavior management.
Education Level:
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in a related field preferred.
Experience Required:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in a K-12 school setting in a student support, special education, classroom teaching, or counseling role.
