Description
State College Friends School (SCFS) is seeking a Creative Movement & Wellness Teacher to inspire students from Kindergarten through 8th Grade to explore movement, health, and well-being in joyful, imaginative ways.
This role encourages children to develop coordination, teamwork, confidence, and resilience through activities such as dance, yoga, expressive movement, cooperative games, and outdoor exploration. We see wellness as more than exercise: it is about nurturing the whole child — body, mind, and spirit — in keeping with our Quaker values and progressive education philosophy.
Specialist Teachers at SCFS design their own programs while collaborating with colleagues to integrate their subject area into the broader school experience.
Responsibilities
>Develop and teach a creative movement and wellness curriculum that blends physical activity, expression, and mindfulness.
>Foster a positive, inclusive classroom community that celebrates diverse abilities and ways of moving.
>Collaborate with classroom teachers and colleagues to weave wellness and movement into the wider school program.
>Document student learning and communicate progress with families.
>Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
>Other duties consistent with a specialist teacher role.
Compensation
This is a part-time, salaried position that includes at least 5.25 hours per week on site including at least 1 hour per week of planning time. Specialist Teachers at SCFS are compensated in ratio with our Faculty Salary Equity Chart, based on education and years of teaching experience.
Process
Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest, resume, and three professional references with contact information to [email protected]. Qualified candidates will be contacted after materials have been reviewed.
