SCFS is seeking a Music Specialist Teacher to work with our students aged Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Specialist Teachers at State College Friends School have much autonomy in creating their program, and are guided by SCFS’ mission statement, Friends school pedagogy, collegial collaboration, and national standards in subject areas. Faculty members at SCFS thoughtfully engage people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences and foster an environment of trust, collaboration, and professionalism at school. A strong alignment with Quaker testimonies and progressive education -- in philosophy and teaching practice -- is expected.

Responsibilities
In addition to creating and implementing an experiential curriculum in their subject area(s), the Music Specialist Teacher:
- establishes a positive classroom community and culture of belonging;
- collaborates with SCFS colleagues in a creative, dynamic, values-based learning community;
- documents students’ learning and writes progress reports (if applicable);
- engages families in the school-home partnership through individual communications as needed;
- attends in-service meetings and professional development trainings;
- participates in other school-wide programs and events such as Back to School Night;
- completes other duties as assigned by the Head of School, consistent with the position of a specialist teacher and member of the faculty.
Benefits
This is a part-time, salaried position that includes at least six (6) hours per week on site and at least one (1) hour per week of planning time. Specialist Teachers at SCFS are compensated in ratio with our Faculty Salary Equity Chart, based on education and years of teaching experience.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is joyful about teaching, working with students of all ages, and collaborating with Lead Teachers to support each student’s growth. The ideal candidate also brings:
- experience working with children;
- experience working in or attending an independent school;
- demonstrated knowledge of cultural competency and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice;
- professional conduct;
- a Bachelor’s degree.


Physical Requirements
This position includes, but is not limited to:
- moving;
- bending;
- walking, including at a fast pace, both indoors and outdoors;
- lifting up to 50 pounds;
- kneeling;
- squatting;
- sitting on the floor;
- standing for long periods of time;
- climbing stairs.
