During spring 2026, State College Friends School is advancing its Self-Study as part of the accreditation process with the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools, known as PAIS. This work brings faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and trustees together to examine how effectively the school’s programs, practices, and institutional systems support its mission.
PAIS accreditation is grounded in a school’s own mission and philosophy. Candidate schools complete an extensive Self-Study that applies PAIS standards to school programs and practices, followed by an on-site evaluation conducted by experienced educators and administrators from other PAIS member schools.
For SCFS, the Self-Study supports careful reflection across areas including educational program, student learning, governance, enrollment, financial stewardship, faculty support, safety, facilities, and long-term planning. The process includes gathering evidence, reviewing current practices, identifying areas of strength, and documenting opportunities for continued development.
This work is closely connected to Learning with Heart in an Age of Change, the school’s strategic direction for 2026–2029. The strategic implementation framework identifies accreditation as a parallel process that supports program documentation, curriculum alignment, policy review, governance clarity, safety planning, and evidence of student learning.
Throughout the spring, members of the school community are contributing to the Self-Study by reviewing documents, discussing standards, examining evidence, and considering how Quaker values are visible in the daily life of the school. This reflective process helps the school strengthen alignment between its mission, student experience, and institutional practices.
SCFS is scheduled to welcome a PAIS Visiting Committee in February 2027. During the visit, a group of peer educators will review the completed Self-Study, observe school life, and conduct its own evaluation. Following the visit, the committee will prepare a report for consideration by the PAIS Commission for Accreditation and Board of Directors. Accreditation remains in progress, and the visiting committee’s review does not itself determine the final outcome.
The Self-Study is more than a documentation requirement. It is an opportunity for the school to listen carefully, reflect honestly, and strengthen the relationships, programs, and systems that support students and teachers. SCFS will continue to share confirmed milestones as the process moves forward.
